Course Description
In this course we’ll be looking more at communication styles and states of mind in relationship to the Mahagunas than specific physical differences related to foods. We’ll be using touch as a way to ground the learning and let the information settle and deepen experientially. Marma helps “rest and digest” on multiple levels. These are core approaches I use with my one-on-one clients and in group work.
The mahagunas of sattva, rajas, & tamas are at the core of skillful healing in Ayurveda. Consciously identifying these mental attitudes & reflecting upon them as we work with clients increases our effectiveness as practitioners & educators. Integrating guided Marma therapy with awareness deepens healing. Learn how to apply the discerning wisdom of Ayurveda without descending into judgment or criticism of your clients or yourself. Build confidence in your ability to hold healthy boundaries & work appropriately with clients’ resources, including guided Marma therapy.
We’ll explore how self-touch, communication & states of mind influence how we nourish ourselves, & learn specific tools to use professionally to support nutritional changes in others.
Course Objectives
- Cultivate the awareness to be able to identify sattva, rajas, and tamas in yourself and clients in everyday interactions.
- Be able to apply listening skills in response to clients in one-on-one sessions.
- Be able to feedback in a neutral and supportive way what you’ve heard the client say.
- Be able to respond with non-verbal means of support (Marma therapy) when alternatives to words & thoughts are needed. Amplify a “whole body-whole being” approach through the guided use of 6 or more marma points.
- Discern when to use a sattvic, rajasic, or tamasic approach with your clients in therapeutic interactions.
