The Rationale behind the Dynamics of Ayurvedic Nutrition series

"Years ago I said I was glad I had a degree in counseling, because it’s one thing to know what people need to eat, and another to support them in actually accomplishing their intentions. This Dynamics of Ayurvedic Nutrition series addresses this second half of the equation, the subtle dynamics of successful nourishment. I share the tools that I work with daily in my practice, and what fascinates me now on the pioneering edge of healing." Amadea

What past participants say about this Marma, Mind, Mahagunas course:

“I loved the experiential learning aspects and exercises in the course. For me they were the gems that I took away from the course. I feel it was a good mix, experiential and information, given time constraints.

"I loved the sattvic environment that you (Amadea) provided by you being you, the material, the organization and presentation of the material.”

“I really liked the breakout room activities. I felt they created bonding and fellowship among the participants.

"I liked the questions that were asked to help us integrate what we were learning." - Andrea P

“Great, nourishing class. This course offered concrete skill sets in a coherent format. The handouts are clear and concise.” - Stephanie R.

Registration open until Sunday, Oct. 8th.

Course Description

The mahagunas of sattva, rajas, & tamas are at the core of skillful healing in Ayurveda. Consciously identifying these mental attitudes & reflecting upon them as we work with clients increases our effectiveness as practitioners & educators. Integrating guided Marma therapy with awareness deepens healing. Learn how to apply the discerning wisdom of Ayurveda without descending into judgment or criticism of your clients or yourself. Build confidence in your ability to hold healthy boundaries & work appropriately with clients’ resources, including guided Marma therapy.

We’ll explore Reflective Listening experientially and practically, and relate communication styles and states of mind (the Mahagunas) to Polyvagal Theory, to enhance healing. We’ll be using touch as a way to ground the learning and let the information settle and deepen experientially. Marma helps “rest and digest” on multiple levels. These are core approaches I use with my one-on-one clients and in group work.

We’ll explore how self-touch, communication & states of mind influence how we nourish ourselves, & learn specific tools to use professionally to support nutritional changes in others.

Course Objectives

  1. Cultivate the awareness to be able to identify sattvarajas, and tamas in yourself and clients in everyday interactions.
  2. Be able to apply reflective listening skills in response to clients in one-on-one and group sessions.
  3. Be able to feedback in a neutral and supportive way what you’ve heard a client say.
  4. Be able to respond with non-verbal means of support (Marma therapy) when alternatives to words & thoughts are needed. Amplify a “whole body-whole being” approach through the guided use of 6 or more marma points.
  5. Discern when to use a sattvic, rajasic, or tamasic approach with your clients in therapeutic interactions, based on Polyvagal Theory.
